How to use tap tempo
- Listen for the main beat in your song.
- Tap the pad or press Space at least four times, keeping a steady pulse.
- Keep tapping to refine the estimate, then check it with the click.
A little more about this tool
Tap tempo is useful when you cannot select an audio file: a rehearsal, a vinyl record, a live set or a song on another device. Tap each main beat rather than the start of each bar. The calculator uses recent intervals and ignores large timing outliers. A pause longer than three seconds starts a new measurement. Slow songs may make sense at double the displayed tempo; musical feel matters more than the last decimal.
How many taps should I use?
Four taps give an initial estimate. Eight to sixteen steady taps usually give a more useful result. Reset if you start following a different pulse.
Is it really free?
Yes. Use this tool without an account, subscription or download. Audio files and microphone input stay on your device. Browser format support varies; MP3 and WAV are good starting points.
