How to use chord finder

  1. Select notes on the keyboard, or enter a fret for each guitar string from low E to high E.
  2. Use x for a muted guitar string and zero for an open string.
  3. Read the matching chord names and play the voicing to hear it.

A little more about this tool

A group of notes can have more than one valid chord name. C–E–G–A, for example, can describe C6 or Am7 depending on context. The finder compares pitch classes with common triads, seventh chords, suspended chords and added-note shapes. Octave duplicates do not change the basic chord label. The lowest note tells you about the inversion, while the surrounding harmony helps decide which name is most useful. This is a note-selection tool, not microphone chord recognition.

Why does it show no match?

The selected notes may form an uncommon voicing or omit a defining chord tone. Try adding the third or fifth, or removing an accidental note.

Is it really free?

Yes. Use this tool without an account, subscription or download. Audio files and microphone input stay on your device. Browser format support varies; MP3 and WAV are good starting points.
